Library Services and Resources for Distance Learning Students

Information about Palm Beach State College's Library and its resources for online classes and distance learners

Library Services for Distance Learners

The Library Homepage is the gateway to numerous library services for Palm Beach State College's Distance Learners. From this website you may search our online catalog for print books and ebooks, retrieve tipsheets for research projects, and link to services provided by the library. However, the Library Homepage is different from our portal page, which is the access point for all electronic resources.  The portal page, and its discovery tools, will be the page you automatically come to once logged in.  (See the log-in instructions in the box below.)

  • Phone Reference (COVID19 Update--Not available while PBSC campuses are closed)
Reference assistance can be requested by calling the reference desk:

Phone reference requests should be brief.  Librarians offer  general advice on effective research strategies, search terms, library use, and useful resources and titles.

Your Library Card

Your PantherCard serves as your library card. If a student is never on campus, a Library Card can be requested by calling the Circulation Desk on the Lake Worth campus during business hours: (561) 868-3710. (COVID19 Update--Not available while PBSC campuses are closed)

Renewing Books

Most books can be renewed twice unless there is a hold or recall on them. Interlibrary Loan must be renewed by the ILL Department (561/ 868-3714). Renewals can be done online, by phone, or onsite.

  • Online renewals are done by logging on to the Library and choosing the "loans, renewals" button ont he right side of the webpage.
  • Phone renewals only apply to books from the Lake Worth campus. (COVID19 Update--Not available while PBSC campuses are closed)
  • Onsite renewals are done at the Circulation Desk. (COVID19 Update--Not available while PBSC campuses are closed)

Interlibrary Loan

No library can have a copy of every book, magazine and journal in the world, so libraries make arrangements with  other libraries to borrow from each other.  If there is a book or article that you need, we are happy to try to get it for you.  This procedure is known as  Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Books can be picked up at your nearest Palm Beach State College library (COVID19 Update--Not available while PBSC campuses are closed), or if never on campus, the materials can be mailed to your address. You wil be responsible for return postage. We receive many articles in a digital format, and these can be emailed directly to you. Copies of articles do not need to be returned.
