Careers and Employment
"We offer the help you need to build your career and find the opportunities that are right for you."
Get Support for Your Veteran-Owned Small Business
If you have a Veteran-Owned Small Business, you may qualify for advantages when bidding on government contracts—along with access to other resources and support—through the Vets First Verification Program. This program is run by the Office of Small & Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU). Registering through OSDBU will allow you to work with us (all businesses who work with VA must be registered). Find out if you’re eligible and how to register your business.
Licensing and Certification
Open new doors to employment by getting licensed or certified as a mechanic, medical technician, attorney, or other professional. Often required for work in certain fields, these tests may be eligible for GI Bill reimbursement.
VA for Vets: Your Gateway to VA Careers
The Veteran Employment Services Office's (VESO) VAforVets initiative helps Veterans and transitioning military service members find meaningful careers.
VA Transition Assistance Program (TAP)
"We have several VA benefits and services available to help you achieve success after the military. However, you don’t have to navigate them alone. VA resources are available at your installation and in your local community to help you and your family."
Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E)
You may receive Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) services to help with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. Other services may be provided to assist Veterans and Servicemembers in starting their own businesses or independent living services for those who are severely disabled and unable to work in traditional employment.
VOW to Hire Heroes Act 2011
Prepare for your next mission by accessing services you may have earned under the Veterans Opportunity to Work (VOW) program and other VA training and career assistance programs. Make your move from military to civilian life a success and get the training you need to thrive in your next career.
Boots to Business

Set-Asides and Special Interest Groups
The federal government establishes formal goals to ensure small businesses get their fair share of work. Every federal government purchase between $10,000 and $250,000 is automatically set aside for small businesses, as long as there are at least two companies that can provide the product or service at a fair and reasonable price: Women-Owned Small Businesses (WSOB), Small Disadvantaged Businesses, also called 8(a) Small Businesses, Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZone) Small Businesses, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB)
Veteran-owned businesses (SBA)
The SBA offers support for veterans as they enter the world of business ownership. Look for funding programs, training, and federal contracting opportunities.
Women Veteran Entrepreneurship Training Program (WVETP)
V-WISE helps women veterans and female military spouses/partners find their passion and learn the business savvy skills necessary to turn an idea or start-up into a growing venture.
